Minimum Entry Requirements

A Bachelor’s Degree (Level 6, MQF) in related fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 as accepted by the HEP Senate; or

A Bachelor’s Degree (Level 6, MQF) in related fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 and not meeting CGPA of 2.50 can be accepted, subject to a rigorous internal assessment; or

A Bachelor’s Degree (Level 6, MQF) in non-related fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 as accepted by the HEP Senate and with relevant working experience, subject to a rigorous internal assessment; or

A Bachelor’s Degree (Level 6, MQF) in non-related fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 as accepted by the HEP Senate and without relevant working experience, subject to passing pre-requisite courses; or

Other equivalent/related qualifications to a Bachelor’s Degree (Level 6, MQF) recognised by the Malaysian Government For international students, a minimum Band 4 in MUET or equivalent to CEFR (Mid B2);

The Faculty of Cognitive Sciences and Human Development currently offers a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Human Resource Development (HRD). The MSc HRD degree is designed for professionals who seek advanced knowledge, skills and confidence in the areas of human resource development and management. Students examine various aspects related to learning and instructional design processes; theories, models, adult learning and strategies. Students are given opportunities to think critically and reflect on current issues and trends of human resource management and development for application in their workplace.
The MSc in HRD programme is a master programme by coursework over a minimum duration of 24 months, which is equivalent to 6 semesters of study.

The Master in Information Technology Management provides students with an enhanced understanding of the business context and technical developments shaping contemporary information and communications technology (ICT) and equips them to meet the challenges of working in the IT industry. The programme will prepare students for a broad range of careers in management like IT manager and director, IT consultants in public and private organisations as well as IT Entrepreneurs. With a Master In Information Technology Management, the students are able to assess an in-depth understanding of knowledge, mastery of skills and research methods related to the field of Information Technology; and devise IT solutions to fulfil requirements and industry.

A Bachelor's degree (Level 6, MQF) in Computing or related fields or equivalent with minimum CGPA of 2.00 can be accepted subject to a minimum of FIVE (5) years of working experience in the related fields and rigorous internal assessment; OR

Candidates without a qualification in the related fields or relevant working experience must undergo appropriate prerequisite courses as determined by the HEP and meet a minimum CGPA of 2.00 with minimum of FIVE (5) years or working experience in the related fields, and rigorous internal assessment; OR

Other qualifications equivalent to a Bachelor's degree (Level 6, MQF) in the fields recognised by the Goverment of Malaysia must undergo appropriate prerequisite courses as determined by the HEP.

AND

A minimum IELTS score of 6.0 or its equivalent (e.g. Malaysia University English Test (MUET) with Band 4; Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-Based-Test (TOEFL IBT) with score 60 -78; Test of English as a Foreign Language Paper-Based-Test (TOEFL PBT) with score 530-545; Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for languages with level B2).

If a student does not meet this requirement, the HEP must offer English Proficiency Courses to ensure that the student's proficiency is sufficient to meet the needs of the programme.

GIA’s academic counselling service unit has been developed with a purpose to enable our postgraduate (Masters & PhDs) students to become a better self-advocate and adopt a self-directed behavior that develop accountability and a mindset towards decisive action as required by a postgraduate student at a reputable university.

On this note, our academic counsellors are trained to give our students a personalised or one-on-one meeting to improve their study skills and performance with constant facilitation on their mental health and personal development. Students under our academic coaching are also able to manage their time independently and effectively in using the tools available to them. We also assist them in identifying their strengths and barriers to develop their evidence-based strategies to accomplish their goals with a personalised study plan.

One of the most important essence of our academic sessions is that apart from guiding our postgraduate students on how best to structure their dissertation or thesis but effectively help them to overcome challenges such as anxiety, stress and procrastination.

In addition to this, our experienced postgraduate counsellors will guide our students on how to anticipate what their supervisors are thinking and what are they expecting from their assignments or thesis. Eventually our postgraduate students are able to plan their research agenda appropriately including proposal defence and viva, solving complex research project, and become a more scholarly writer to complete his/her thesis or dissertation successfully.
